With exactly three months until the first tee off at the 2010 Ryder Cup, William Graham AM today said:
‘The three main impacts of the Ryder Cup coming to Wales are: economic growth, tourism and a higher quality of life. These three factors contribute to how the Ryder Cup will help Wales’ economy. The 2006 Ryder Cup had a profound effect on Ireland’s economy.’
‘As a direct result of the Ryder Cup, Wales will have a larger tourism industry. Richard Hills, the European Ryder Cup Director has already described Caerleon as “a beautiful town with a fascinating history and deserves to be much more widely recognised.” Mr Hills wishes to put a “powerful global spotlight on Caerleon.” Wales is an abundance of history.’
The Conservative AM for South Wales East continued:
‘There is tremendous potential for quality of life in Newport to improve because of the projects being put forward because of the Ryder Cup. Newport will be a completely new city after the tournament. The Ryder Cup is giving massive benefits towards our communities. Wales may become one of major golfing destinations of the world after this event.’
‘Wales is a treasure which has yet to have been discovered by the rest of the world. We will become a richer country in many ways as a result of the Ryder Cup.’
