Grant Boost for Private Housing Sector

CaerphillyLast week Cabinet Members at Caerphilly County Borough Council agreed the renewal of the council’s private sector housing policy – a series of grants and loans available to qualifying households to help rejuvenate dwellings in the county borough.

The private sector housing policy has several aims including providing regeneration in declining communities, bringing long term empty private sector houses back into use and providing adaptations for disabled people.

The scheme is also designed to reduce the incidence of unhealthy housing within the county borough, enable vulnerable people to remain at home in safety and comfort and improve standards within the private rented sector.

During a meeting on Wednesday 30th April, Cabinet Members agreed to provide a range of grant and loan options, totalling £2.465 million.

In addition to providing Mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants, the council will also provide assistance via:

  • Discretionary Disabled Facilities Grants
  • Relocation Grants
  • Home Repair Grants
  • Home Improvement Repayment Loans
  • Conversion Grants
  • Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) Repayment Loans
  • Group/Block Repair Schemes
  • Renewal Area Grants

Cllr Gerald Jones, Deputy Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council and Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “This extensive range of grants and loans made available to the private housing sector signals the council’s commitment to improving lives and communities here in the county borough.

“These specifically targeted grants and loans will make a huge difference to those who receive them and help drive real change in our communities.”
