Councillor Mel Nott, Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, said: “Everyone involved in the management and running of Bryngarw Country Park is immensely proud of achieving this prestigious award.
“The park provides a wide range of high quality services to residents, tourists and visitors, including a number of annual events such as family fun days and projects such as an environmental education programme developed to educate the county borough’s next generation of adults on environmental issues.
“As well as recreational services, the park is hugely important in maintaining the diversity of wildlife and natural habitats that it accommodates while having a positive impact on the health and well-being of local people.”
The park was highly commended for its well managed natural and manmade habitats, with the judges highlighting the commitment of the rangers to the park, its visitors and wildlife. The contributions of the local community volunteers were particularly applauded, and the park’s environmental education programme received the highest praise with the potential of Bryngarw becoming a flagship for such activities.
