Green heroes exhibition visits Bridgend

A year-long photographic exhibition that is making its way around Wales after a trip to the Smithsonian Folk-Life Festival in Washington DC has arrived in Bridgend County Borough.

Based at Bridgend County Borough Council’s Customer Service Centre in Angel Street, Bridgend, the Wales Green List features men, women and organisations from across Wales who are carrying out work designed to inspire others to become more sustainable.

They include business leaders, community groups, artists, politicians, campaigners, company directors, members of staff and project promoters who are all tackling environmental or social issues in their own village or town, or at a regional, national or international level.

The exhibition in Bridgend County Borough has been organised by Cynnal Cymru – Sustain Wales and EcoDysgu to highlight the work of these ‘green heroes’. It is the result of Wales’ first ever Green List which was launched in 2009 and arrives just as nominations are being sought for the 2010 event.

Councillor John Spanswick, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The Wales Green List features 52 people who are helping to inspire others to adopt more sustainable ways of living. It includes EcoDysgu’s Julie Lyddon, who is the only Green Champion on the list from Bridgend County Borough.

“Now the 2010 nominations are open and more people are being sought who deserve to be recognised for the way in which they are addressing social, economic or environmental issues within local communities.

“These awards show that ordinary people as well as environmentalists and activists are also striving to make a positive difference and create a brighter future for Wales.”

You can view the exhibition between 8am-6pm Monday to Friday at the Customer Service Centre in Angel Street, Bridgend.
