A fantastic 80-foot tall mural of Caerphilly Castle’s infamous resident ‘The Green Lady’ has been unveiled in Caerphilly.
Residents and traders came together to help unveil Caerphilly County Borough Council Tidy Towns Tidy Places team’s latest project, a vibrant mural of The Green Lady on Pentrebane Street in Caerphilly.
Cllr James Fussell, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Mayor officially unveiled the stunning mural recently.
Cllr Fussell said, “This fantastic piece of artwork is another step towards rejuvenating this part of our town. This wonderful mural depicts Caerphilly Castle’s legendary resident ‘The Green Lady’ and I’m hopeful it will delight passers by and visitors to Pentrebane Street’s businesses alike”.
He continued, “This particular street has recently seen a lot of rejuvenation, what with the recent reopening of the Caerphilly Indoor Market, and we will continue to work with local traders to help ensure that Caerphilly town centre is the destination of choice both for local residents and visitors to the town alike”.
Local ‘Shake it Up’ cafe owner, Julie Boyce said, “This mural is a splendid addition to Pentrebane Street and has helped brighten up a previously rundown part of the street, and put smiles on the faces of the townspeople”.
The mural, by Malarky Arts is part of a wider ‘authority wide’ programme of enviro-art, and is funded by Tidy Towns Tidy Places.
Tidy Towns Tidy Places is a Welsh Assembly Government initiative, which aims to improve the quality of the local environment through community action, contributing towards a clean, safe and tidy Wales.
