Caerphilly county borough council is leading the way in Wales with a £1miilion plan to repair its road network following problems caused by the winter freeze.
Roads across the area are to receive a major ‘facelift’ following news that significant investment is being made available to fund a range of resurfacing and repair schemes.
“The council’s highways network is our biggest asset, estimated to be valued at approximately £1 billion, and we are committed to ensuring that our highways remain at a high safety standard for our residents,” said Cllr Lindsay Whittle, Leader of Council.
This money will be allocated to improve key road networks in communities across the county borough. In total, forty one separate schemes will be undertaken, with the majority being done before March 31st this year.
Communities that will benefit include Abertridwr, Bargoed, Bedwas, Brithdir, Bute Town, Caerphilly, Deri, Fleur-de-Lys, Fochriw, Glan Y Nant, Hengoed, Llanbradach, Machen, Maesycwmmer, Manmoel, Newbridge, Oakdale, Penallta, Penpedairheol, Phillipstown, Pontllanfraith, Pwllypant, Rhymney, Risca, Rudry, Trecenydd, Ty Sign, Woodfieldside and Ynysddu.
Cllr Rob Gough, CCBC cabinet member for transportation and planning said, “The recent bad weather has led to the deterioration of our highway network, so our inspectors have identified the worst hit areas. We will now use this funding to target these routes and deliver improvements using a comprehensive package of resurfacing works.”
A contribution of almost £380,000 has been provided by the to fund the works and an additional grant announcement is expected in the near future. Any additional contributions towards the scheme will be made by Welsh Assembly GovernmentCaerphilly county borough council.
