Blackwood Comprehensive School is leading the way in its approach to improving energy efficiency.
The school has embraced a number of ‘green schemes’ over recent months to help cut costs and reduce carbon emissions. Head teacher, Mr Ravi Pawar, has received funding from the Local Authority Energy Financing scheme (LAEF) to help implement a range of new schemes at the school.
Examples of the innovative energy-saving technology that has been installed at the site include:
- High frequency lighting – resulting in annual savings of £5,486 and 20.2 tonnes of CO2.
- Lighting controls including daylight sensors – £5,935 and 21.8 tonnes of CO2.
- Loft and Wall Cavity Insulation – £6,455 and 30 tonnes of CO2.
“We pride ourselves on being a clean, green school and we are delighted with the success of our energy efficiency schemes to date,” said Mr Pawar. “The whole school community recognises the importance of taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint and we are already seeing clear benefits thanks to these new schemes.”
Cllr Colin Mann, CCBC cabinet member for sustainability said, “We are introducing a range of measures to improve efficiency across all our buildings and it’s great to see schools like Blackwood Comprehensive are being so proactive in its approach to cutting costs and reducing emissions.”
As well as reducing energy costs and cutting emissions, the improvements have also resulted in a more comfortable learning environment for teachers and pupils at the school.
