Environmentally friendly pupils at Ysgol Bryn Onnen have been awarded the green flag in the Eco-Schools scheme.
To celebrate the award, pupils took part in an Easter parade wearing bonnets made from recycled material before a hoisting the flag ceremony outside.
The School in Varteg secured the flag by carrying out a range of ‘green’ tasks like improving the school grounds, encouraging pupils to save energy and introducing new recycling facilities.
Rather than using paper, reminders are sent to parents via text messages and they can also receive the school newsletter by email.
Headteacher Ryan Parry said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to get the green flag. It’s testament to the hard work of the whole school and our stakeholders.”
Torfaen Councillor John Cunningham, Executive Member for Operational Services, said he was delighted to hear about another ‘green’ success stories in the area.
He said: “Schools and residents are doing a magnificent job for the environment.”
The Eco-Schools scheme encourages youngsters to help the environment.
