Greengrocer fined for not pricing fruit and veg

A greengrocer has been prosecuted by Blaenau Gwent Council Trading Standards team for not putting prices on fruit and vegetables at his shop.

Magistrates at Abertillery found him guilty of 10 offences under the Price Act (1974) and fined him £400.

Trading Standards officers inspected the greengrocer’s shop in August 2009. Many goods were not priced up – just as on two earlier inspections.

Steve Jones, Head of Trading Standards at Blaenau Gwent Council said:

“All businesses have to comply with the same rules. It’s important to give the selling price to consumers so they can decide whether to buy or not – without having to ask.”
