Assembly Member for Wrexham, Lesley Griffiths has praised last weeks launch for the ‘WRex’ Recycling scheme as successfully mixing fashion and the environment, after joining the many supporters at the event.
The Launch, hosted last Thursday at the War Memorial Club marked the official opening of the scheme which collects and recycles clothes, textiles, shoes, belts and handbags donated by people across Wrexham – and ended with a fashion showcase of clothes donated so far.
WRex Recycling also provides training, volunteering and employment opportunities, while diverting clothes and textiles from landfill.
At the launch, guests were welcomed by the Deputy Mayor, and Community Enterprise Coordinator Lorraine Daly and Tracey Prandle made a presentation on the WRex Recycling ‘Story so far’, noting the excellent support received to date.
The launch event closed with a fashion show featuring models who donated their time to showcase some of the high quality clothing donated so far.
Following the event, AM Lesley said:
“I would like to thank the organisers for inviting me to the opening which successfully mixed high fashion, community enterprise and being good for the planet.
“WRex Recycling is a great scheme which is win-win. Not only does it provide opportunities to gain skills and employment for people in the community, but it also benefits the environment.
“If you live in Wrexham, and have old clothing and textiles which you would like to dispose of, then look out for collection bins across the town, or contact WRex recycling and they can come and collect from your door.”
Funds raised by WRex Recycling are used by Caia Park Partnership for charitable activities on Caia Park and Wrexham as a whole. WRex Recycling is a community enterprise and part of registered charity Caia Park Partnership.
