Lesley Griffiths, AM for Wrexham has spoken of economic benefits which will stem from the planned redoubling of the Wrexham– Saltney junction line. In a recent letter from the Welsh Local Government Minister, Carl Sargeant, it has been revealed line is to receive £36.66 million for the engineering works over the next three years, with plans to be completed by 2015 in line with timetables set out in the Welsh Governments National Prioritised Transport plan.
Speaking of the plans, Lesley said:
“This is something I have worked towards for some time and I am thrilled to see this being delivered as part of the Labour Welsh Government’s National Transport Plan.”
“The redoubling of the Chester – Saltney junction line is great news for the people of Wrexham. The work will provide an immediate boost to the local economy via supply chain jobs. Over the longer term this will improve links to major English cities and two national capitals, Cardiff and Dublin, making Wrexham more attractive to business.”
“In my view the single track between Chester and Wrexham was always an anomaly, caused by the Tory downgrading of the line in the 1980’s.
“Successive Governments have come and go promising to rectify this. The Welsh Labour Government is delivering, despite budget cuts.”
