Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths is encouraging people in Wrexham to take a stand against bullying.
Anti-Bullying Week (18-22 November) is an annual event aimed at raising awareness of the concerns surrounding bullying and helping individuals come up with new ideas on how to prevent it.
The campaign encompasses all sorts of bullying, from teasing, name calling and verbal threats to physical violence, homophobic and sexual abuse. A significant aspect of the campaign is to focus on new technologies and social media to promote positive communication rather than being held back by cyber-bullying.
Various anti-bullying charities are involved with the campaign and are urging schools, colleges, other education providers and organisations to get involved.
The website www.beatbullying.org is raising awareness and contains lots of fundraising hints, tips and information. One way of taking part is by purchasing the iconic blue wristbands which are available online and are a great way for students, parents and school staff to show their support for the fight against bullying.
Wrexham AM Ms Griffiths said:
“People who are being bullied can often feel isolated and distressed so campaigns like Anti-Bullying Week can help address the key issues, beat the bullies and vastly improve the lives of the victims.”
“There are many fundraising tips and ideas online and I hope people in Wrexham take part and support the campaign.”
