Gwanwyn Festival of the Arts for older people

As part of the Gwanwyn Festival of the Arts, the Arts, Culture and Events section of Flintshire County Council, in partnership with Age Concern, delivered two Saturday workshops recently.

The Gwanwyn Festival of the Arts is a May-time event celebrating creativity and vitality as we become older and more experienced. The workshops took place in the Art and Craft Mill in Holywell.

The first event was one of storytelling with Fiona Collins and garland making with Lilian Chapman. During the workshop the participants developed and told their own stories. This was followed by a display of garlands and a performance of stories linked to May-time and flower myths for an audience of about 20 people in the Mill Café. The garland makers also made a large garland for public display which fitted in nicely with the May celebrations being held in Holywell on the day.

The second event offered guided meditation with Yoga teacher, Myra Roulston, and Circle and Line Dancing with dance tutor, Angela Fessi from NEWDance. The group was initially treated to a relaxing meditation followed by dances from around the world. Everyone who attended the celebrations thoroughly enjoyed their experiences.
