Gwyn Hall art works

Shoppers in Neath town centre will be able to enjoy an outdoor art exhibition thanks to the talents of pupils from Alderman Davies School.

Pupils there have been involved in a competition organised by Neath Port Talbot Council and Morgan Sindall, the main contractors for the re-building of the Gwyn Hall.  Winning artworks will be placed on hoardings around the site for the public to enjoy as they walk pass.

Nine paintings will adorn the hoardings with pride of place going to overall winner, 11 year old Rebecca Heaven from Upper Cimla.  The Year 6 pupil impressed the judges with her interpretation of an iPod depicting what will be going on at the venue.

Rebecca said: “I didn’t expect to win and it’s a nice feeling.  I wanted to do something modern as a background and I thought that a lot of people have iPods. I wanted the screen to show what will be there like a cafÉ, music and theatre and I then put some headphones leading up through the picture.”

Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Cllr Ali Thomas said: “The school’s pupils did a superb job and all the entries were excellent and very colourful.  The children obviously put a great deal of thought into their artwork and I was impressed with the way Rebecca captured all the elements of the new Gwyn Hall.  This is another excellent example of the community working together and I’m sure the public will enjoy seeing the artwork as they pass the Gwyn Hall as it progresses.”
