Gwynedd’s new dance leaders

Nine pupils from schools in the Arfon and Dwyfor areas of Gwynedd have just completed a dance leaders course through the medium of Welsh.

The course, held at the Dance Hall, Ysgol Eifionydd, Porthmadog, last week, was organised in partnership between the Llwybrau i’r Brig (Routes to the Summit), Urdd Gobaith Cymru and Gwynedd Council’s 5×60 scheme.

“It’s great to see such enthusiasm in these young people that they came here on a course during their half-term holiday,” said course tutor Cari Sioux.

“It is a very long three days for the pupils and it is great to see their dedication and interest in dance.”

The Llwybrau i’r Brig scheme is aimed at improving the skills and confidence of young people through the medium of Welsh.

Siôn Lloyd on behalf of Llwybrau’r Brig said: “The Dance Leaders course is a golden opportunity to develop young leaders. There are not many opportunities to follow this kind of course through the medium of Welsh, and it shows how Llwybrau i’r Brig invests in young people.”

Huw Evans, Gwynedd Council’s 5×60 officer – which is a Welsh Government initiative to encourage more children and young people involved in sport, added:

“The whole purpose of the 5×60 initiative is to encourage and to inspire young people to be active and to participate in physical activities. As a result of this course, there will be nine new dance leaders in the county, all of them inspiring young people in their communities to participate in dance and to be active.”

He also said that Gwynedd Council’s 5×60 team are looking for enthusiastic young people to be part of the future of sport within the county.
