Plaid Cymru Councillor John Wyn Williams will today congratulate the Community Safety Partnership on the reduction in crime in Gwynedd.
There is fewer recorded crime in Gwynedd now compared to four years ago. Most recent figures compares the nine months between April and December 2010/11 with the same period in 2013/14.
A reduction of 42% was seen in public disorder incidents within the county, 178 fewer incidents. 30% less incidents of criminal damage and arson were reported in Gwynedd within the same period, 355 fewer incidents.
Overall 756 fewer recorded crimes, a 14% reduction, were seen in Gwynedd compared to the same period 2 years ago.
In addition, Gwynedd saw:
- 53 fewer incidents of vehicle crime, a 17% reduction.
- 49 less violence with injury crimes, a 9% reduction.
- 19 fewer non domestic burglaries, 6% reduction.
Plaid Councillor John Wyn Williams who leads on Community Safety in Gwynedd said: “It is evident from these figures that partnership work improves how agencies tackle crime. Joint working between a core team of local authority officers and Police officers has seen a vast reduction in some types of crime. I sincerely congratulate the team on their work.
Since 2012/13, Anglesey and Gwynedd have seen changes in their partnership process. The main change has been the merging of the two counties into one Community Safety Partnership structure. The Local Service Boards were also merged, and became a two County Board.
“The great work that the Community Safety Partnership team has carried out in the past few months needs to be noted. They should be congratulated for achieving these reductions at a time when financial constraints are upon public bodies, and an ever further need to be more efficient and effective.”
“There are some areas of priority for the coming months including tackling house burglaries, domestic abuse, shoplifting, theft from vehicles and alcohol related violence with injury, to name a few. We look forward to supporting the Partnership in their work,” Councillor John Wyn Williams concluded.
