Whatever your preference in art, with 112 works on show by 99 different artists, there will surely be something to suit all tastes at the annual open art exhibition at the Gwynedd Museum & Art Gallery in Bangor.
This is the 15th consecutive open art exhibition to be held at the Gwynedd Museum & Art Gallery in Bangor which has, over the years, gone from strength to strength.
A panel of selectors decided on the final exhibition from over 240 entries. This year the selectors’ prize of £250 went to Isobel Crawford from Colwyn Bay with her atmospheric archival digital print entitled ‘It Wasn’t Always Like This’.
Other works awarded recognition of Highly Commended were ‘Sea Dream 3’ a chalk and pastel work by Susan Gathercole, ‘Charlotte’s Shell (Shelf Life)’ an oil painting by Pam Green, ‘Sir Benfro’ a mixed media work by Marian Jones, ‘Lower Braich Gallery’ an acrylic and ink painting by Arfon Jones, ‘Little Dancer aged 84’ a sculpture by Wendy Mayer and ‘Bethesda Shops’, an oil painting by Martin Morley.
Delyth Gordon, Gwynedd Council Visual Arts Officer said: “The open art exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for local artists to showcase their work to the public. There is a wide variety of works on show, paintings, drawings, photography and some sculpture, which we hope will attract people from throughout the area who are interested in art. All are welcome to enjoy the work.”
The public also get the chance to vote for their favourite art work during the exhibition with a prize of £100, awarded by the Friends of the Museum and Art Gallery, going to the winner at the end of the exhibition.
For the first time this year a smaller subsequent showing of some of the paintings will be held at Gwynedd Council’s Oriel Pendeitsh Gallery in Caernarfon from 1 May – 20 June.
Those interested in submitting work for selection next year can leave their details at the Gwynedd Museum & Art Gallery, Bangor.
