Gwynedd Council thanks its foster carers

Almost 150 of Gwynedd’s foster carers and children came together recently to celebrate the excellent work they undertake each and every day.

The fun-day event held at Parc Glasfryn, near Pwllheli, proved to be a hugely popular occasion, with children and adults alike enjoying the various activities which were on offer. It was also an excellent opportunity for Gwynedd Council to pay tribute to the invaluable role the county’s foster carers play in caring for children and young people.

There are around 175 children in foster care in Gwynedd at present, with 85 registered foster carers who offer a place in their homes for children who need a place to stay and someone to care for them.

Councillor R H Wyn Williams, Gwynedd Council’s Social Services Portfolio Leader said:

Gwynedd’s foster carers play a vital role by ensuring that children who for whatever reason cannot live with their parents for a period, can stay here in Gwynedd – as close as possible to their local community.

“We are hugely grateful to Gwynedd’s foster carers for the outstanding support they provide, and the fun day at Parc Glasfryn was a wonderful opportunity for us to thank the county’s foster carers for the outstanding service they provide every day.

“As a Council we are always keen to hear from people who are interested in becoming new foster carers. We need foster carers for children of all ages – form newborn babies to teenagers, and Gwynedd Council’s fostering team are always available to offer advice and guidance.”
