Ensuring that companies within Gwynedd gain and that local benefit are obtained from public sector contracts will be the focus of Gwynedd’s Economic Partnership (PEG) and Business Sub-Group meeting later this month.
The meeting to be held at Galeri, Caernarfon on 27 March between 9:30am and 12:00pm, will be an opportunity to learn more about the upcoming work to ensure the interests of local benefits from procurement contracts in the public sector.
Councillor John Wynn Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for the Economy said:
“Ensuring that businesses in Gwynedd take advantage of the opportunities arising from public sector procurement is key, and is an issue identified as a key area in Gwynedd Council’s strategic plan 2013-17.
“Ensuring the survival and resilience of local businesses is one of the main objective of the Council, and in the challenging times of today, we are keen to share the experiences of successful businesses. I encourage businesses in the county to attend this event to learn more about the work and the support available to them.
As part of the strategic plan, the main developments are:
- Establish an annual procurement programme
- Conduct a review of the council’s procurement process and decide on an appropriate direction
- Establish social clauses within the field of construction contracts, identifying other sectors
- Target and raise awareness amongst businesses within the County of the Council’s procurement contracts, by ensuring appropriate support to enable them to submit tender bids.
- Identify any voids in local supply
The meeting will include a series of presentations from various local organisations and partners, as well as showcasing the practical support available to local businesses in order for them to take full advantage of the opportunities available. There will also be presentations to explain and present more information about the work involved as well as a question and answer session.
