Hair and Beauty Students Create Wonderland-Inspired World

Coleg Gwent Cat and BandersnatcherHair and Beauty students took a trip down the rabbit hole last month for an Alice in Wonderland-inspired hair and beauty show which raised over £200 for charity.

Students put together a spectacular live show, which brought to life the theme of Alice in Wonderland featuring the Mad Hatter, White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat designs.

The show involved hair and beauty students working together around a theme to produce a catwalk show which featured competitions and charity fundraising

The show was the accumulation of months of hard work for students, who started work on their creations in September. The imaginative designs were made from a range of recycled materials that included cuts of hair, flowers and chicken wire to name a few.

The campus was busier than the Mad Hatter’s tea party as the show involved a collective student effort from across Pontypool Campus.  Art and construction students provided props and sets including giant toadstools, flamingos and teacups, whilst media students created animation sequences that helped to transform Coleg Gwent’s Pontypool Campus into Wonderland

The Level 1 and Level 3 learners completed the show as part of their course, using a variety of skills and techniques. All learners achieved an assessment credit as part of the show.

However, a few students went home grinning like the Cheshire Cat after winning their categories.

The winners were:

Level 1 Hair and Beauty

1st – Rachael Hancock
2nd – Cerys Hill
3rd – Jessica Booth

Level 3 Hairdressing

1st – Alice Ribeiro
2nd – Rachel Basham
3rd – Charlotte Sharman

Part Time Level 3 Hairdressing

1st – Lucinda Quick
2nd – Sarah Davies

Helen Morgan, Head of school for Wellbeing, said:  “The show was a huge success. I would like to formally congratulate the learners and staff for their professionalism, creativity and innovation. It was a fabulous show and an excellent opportunity for us to celebrate our leaners’ success and work with key partners.”

As well as showcasing their talent and skill students raised £286 for Cancer Research.
