Ebbw Vale came alive with glamour and mystique this week when Coleg Gwent hairdressing students showed off their creations at Ebbw Vale Campus’s annual hair show.
Over 40 students from the Campus, on Level 2 and Level 3 hairdressing courses, showcased their eye for style as models took to the catwalk sporting creations based around themes including Masquerade Ball, Avant Garde, the future and box office hit, The Grinch.
Highlights included a hairpiece inspired by an eagle’s nest and a lightning bolt, whilst costumes were just as innovative including a dress made of fake money and a waistcoat crafted from paper. Level 2 Beauty Therapy students helped bring the total look together by doing makeup for the models.
Twenty-eight year-old Michelle Williams from Goytre, who will finish her Level 3 course in the summer, said: “The show was a great opportunity for us to really showcase our creative side and a good practical opportunity to express our interpretations of the themes. It was great fun and a brilliant feeling to see our creations on the catwalk.”
Tutor Helena Bassett was thrilled with how the show went: “The students showed how well they can work under pressure, which is brilliant preparation for work in the industry. The costumes were just as innovative as the hairstyles which ranged from flamboyant hair pieces to chic, stylish cuts.
“Guests were impressed with how professional and polished the students’ work was and we can’t wait to hold next year’s show at the brand new Blaenau Gwent Leaning Zone.”
Providing the entertainment, Music students blasted out rock covers, Valleys Idol contestant Sophie Jones wowed the audience with her vocal talent and local youth dance group Super Troup, put in an energetic performance.
Due to its smashing success in recent years, the show was extended to two evenings and proved a fantastic success.
Professional lighting and music was provided by Music staff and the show was filmed by Media students.
