Residents wanting to find out more about Port Talbot’s Harbour Way Project will get the chance to see a detailed plan of the £107m scheme at an exhibition at the Aberafan Shopping Centre.
The team behind the road, Costain, will be talking to residents and shoppers on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th May on the ground floor of the centre, bringing with them detailed display boards and an aerial shot of the town with the layout of the road superimposed on top.
The dual carriageway, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Regional Development Fund, is the biggest transport project the town has seen since the construction of the M4.
Costain has already started major construction work with the relocation of a railway signal in April and construction of the first of seven roundabouts beginning near the A48 off Junction 38 of the M4 (Margam).
John Skentelbury, Project Manager, said, “We want to be able to meet up with the local community at the most convenient venues for them and obtain feedback to ensure that we improve our performance.”
John Flower, Director of Environment, Neath Port Talbot Council, added, “Once complete, Harbour Way will make a huge difference to the flow of traffic bringing benefits for everyone.
“It is a strategic road improvement linking some key employment sites and will open up development potential along the waterfront area.
“As well as being an attractive gateway to Port Talbot, it will kickstart the Council’s ambitious regeneration plans for other developments such as Aberavon Seafront and Port Talbot Parkway Station.”

A purpose built visitor centre is open every Wednesday from 1pm-6pm for residents to keep up to date with the progress of the road and to have any questions or queries answered.
