As a thank you to Gwynedd residents for using the 22 litre brown food waste bin, Gwynedd Council has organised four days where people can pick up a free bag of soil conditioner for the garden.
The days will be held at different locations on every Saturday during May, between 10am and 1pm:
- 5 May – Caergylchu recycling centre car park, Cibyn, Caernarfon
- 12 May – Gwynedd Council staff car park, Glan y Don, Pwllheli
- 19 May – Gwynedd Council offices car park, Penarlâg, Dolgellau
- 26 May – Ffridd Rasus Recycling Centre, Harlech
Last year, Gwynedd Council collected 10,000 tonnes of precious food and garden waste was collected, diverting it from landfill sites.
Food and garden waste produces methane gas as it rots in landfill sites. By collecting it in the brown bins as part of the Council’s recycling and composting service, something useful can come from it.
The soil conditioner distribution days have been very popular in the past and the produce can be spread over the garden. Officers from the Council’s Waste and Recycling Service warns the public that the conditioner will be given away on a first come, first serve basis.
Members of the public will be allowed one 20kg sack of the soil conditioner each which is made from the waste from the brown bin. People do not need to bring their own sacks or shovels, it will be conveniently pre-bagged.
