Have a green Christmas

There will be no changes to normal refuse and recycling collections across the Caerphilly county borough during the festive period.

Residents are asked to put out bins on their collection days as normal before 6.00am.

Also, due to the extra waste generated over the Christmas period (wrapping paper and packaging etc), the council will relax its normal rules and will collect additional bags put out alongside wheelie bins (max 2 bags) from Monday 27 December to Friday 7 January.

Please take additional waste to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (closed Christmas Day and New Years Day)

CCBC cabinet member Cllr Lyn Ackerman said, “Caerphilly is one of the greenest local authorities in Wales thanks to the ongoing support of local residents. I would urge everyone to do their bit over the festive period to make this the greenest Christmas yet!”

Don’t forget…..

Try to re-use or recycle your leftover food. Every year in Wales we throw out 350,000 tonnes of food which rots in landfill sites, releasing the greenhouse gas methane. Make the most of your leftovers – turkey can go into risottos, curries and salads, and vegetables can be put into soups and stews. For more recipes please visit www.wasteawarenesswales.org.uk. Alternatively any left over food and turkey carcass can be placed in the food waste caddie for composting.

When Christmas is over, even the tree can be recycled! Real Christmas trees can be collected with your normal weekly green waste collection or taken to any of Caerphilly’s 6 household waste recycling centres where they will be collected for composting. (Please cut trees into 1 metre lengths)

Christmas wrapping paper and cards can be recycled in your brown bin/recycling box. (No heavily embossed foil cards or paper)
