On 3 March 2011 there will be a referendum on the law-making powers of the National Assembly for Wales and voters in Rhondda Cynon Taf are being urged to have their say.
However, in order to make your voice heard, you must ensure you are registered to vote – you have until Feb 16 to do so.
The electoral register is updated annually and if your details have recently changed, for example if you have moved house, then you need to register with your new details if you want the opportunity to vote in the referendum on 3 March.
If you are a student, you can register at your home and term time addresses, which ensures that you have a choice of where to vote on 3 March.
Cllr Maureen Webber, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Council Business, said: “It is important for people to have a say in this important referendum.
“However, in order to do so they must be registered to vote. It is easy to do so, simply visit www.aboutmyvote.co.uk where you can download a form and email it back immediately.
“It only takes a few minutes to secure your vote. As well as ensuring you are registered to vote in the Referendum, it is also important to consider where you will be on March 3 and if it would be more convenient for you to vote by post or proxy. Again, find out more at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk.
The Assembly has powers to make laws in 20 subject areas. In each subject area, the Assembly can make laws on some matters, but not on others. The referendum will ask voters whether the Assembly should now to be able to make laws on all matters in the 20 subject areas it has powers for.
