Have you got the cadet factor? 20 new volunteer Police cadets to be recruited this summer

Police in Caerphilly are about to launch a new recruitment drive to search for 20 teenage, volunteer police cadets.

Over the next 3 weeks (Monday March 14th to Monday April 4th 2011) – Caerphilly Local Policing Unit is asking students aged between 16 and 17 years old to apply to become a volunteer police cadet which will give youngsters the opportunity to find out more about the workings of a police force, learn new skills and take part in new experiences over a 2 year programme.

The cadets will meet at least once a week to take part in different activities. They will have their own uniform, attend workshops and talks to get an understanding of the work of a police force, as well as assisting with community engagement. They will also be taking part in road safety initiatives and crime prevention patrols.

Leading the programme for Caerphilly Local Policing Unit (LPU), Blackwood and Ystrad Mynach Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector, Kevin Childs said: “This is a new and exciting initiative for Caerphilly as well as the potential new police cadets. If you are aged between 16-17, interested in becoming a better citizen, developing new skills, meeting new people and having something different to add to your CV – then this is definitely for you!

“You don’t have to want to become a police officer, to take part – it’s all about broadening your horizons and trying something a bit different. Caerphilly are looking forward to the new cadets, they will be a great asset to our police force.”
