Gwynedd Council is working with Cymdeithas Tai Eryri housing association, Harlech Community Council and the Gwynedd Rural Housing Enabler to develop an exciting affordable homes scheme for the former Pant yr Eithin site in Harlech.
An open day will be held at the Harlech Swimming Pool Café on Thursday, 15 March, between 4-7pm, giving local people the opportunity to find out more about the scheme, to give their opinion on draft plans for the site and to register their affordable homes needs.
This innovative scheme will allow a housing estate to be built which will include affordable homes for local people and homes for adults with learning disabilities in Meirionnydd.
Arfon Hughes, the Gwynedd Rural Housing Enabler, said: “A new information leaflet is being launched locally which outlines our plans for the site. We are calling on the people of Harlech and the surrounding area to call by the open evening so that they can have their say about local housing needs.
“This session in the swimming pool café plays an important part in the plans for the former Pant yr Eithin site – without knowing what local people need, it’s difficult for us to make plans which suit the area.
“For example, if there are many older people in the area who are living in houses which are too big, there is an opportunity here to build bungalows for them which would free up the larger houses for young families in need. Or maybe there is a need for smaller flats or houses for young people, single people or families in Harlech.”
There will also be a chance to register for affordable homes during the session.
Councillor Caerwyn Roberts, the Gwynedd Council member for Harlech, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for local people to play their part as we plan for the area’s future. I would urge people to keep an eye out for the leaflet and to call by the information session, or to contact the Rural Housing Enabler with any comments if they are unable to attend.”
As part of the scheme, seven bungalows for adults with learning disabilities will be built on the site. This is part of Gwynedd Council’s wider campaign to enable more and more vulnerable people to live independently, with the support of public services and the latest equipment.
