Caernarfon residents, businesses and groups are being urged to have their say on a range of regeneration options for the town.

Gwynedd Council has secured European Convergence and Welsh Assembly funding to carry out further improvements in the town, and input from people who live, work and visit Caernarfon is vital to ensuring the success of the project.

Gwynedd Council Leader, Councillor Dyfed Edwards said: “This exciting new project will allow us to work to develop a range of significant improvements that will ensure that Caernarfon can look forward to the future with confidence.

“With more than 400 people attending a ‘drop-in’ session held in Caernarfon last month, it is obvious that local residents and businesses want to see the best for their town. The views and suggestions made during that event have now been incorporated into initial plans and Caernarfon residents and businesses are urged to come along and have their say.”

The environmental improvement scheme aims to:

* make getting in and around the town easier for residents and visitors
* improve the look and feel of Pool Street
* improve the town’s bus station at Poolside
* create a strong sense of arrival in the town centre

Following the last consultation event held on Castle Square, almost 200 responses have been received with the top priority being to review the traffic arrangements on Bangor Street, along with the need to improve Pool Street and other areas for pedestrians and providing better public transport facilities on Poolside.

Initial plans incorporating the comments made by Caernarfon residents, businesses and local groups are now being produced, and they will be on display at a public exhibition on Castle Square on Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28 between 10am and 3pm.

Pat Jones, Gwynedd Council Town Centre Environmental Projects Co-ordinator added: “We would urge local people to have a look and to take the opportunity to talk to the consultants from Gillespies who have been appointed to work on the project, and Gwynedd Council officers and comment on the suggestions.”

Those unable to come along to the exhibition on the Maes are welcome to visit Caernarfon Library from Tuesday, December 1 to Friday, December 4 where the plans will be on display. The proposed plans will also be available online on: www.gwynedd.gov.uk/caernarfontowncentre
