Cardiff residents have the opportunity to have their say in an important consultation that opens today on the future provision of Cardiff’s Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs).
They currently operate 4 sites around the city and are planning to reduce this to 2 super sites to streamline and improve this service.
Cllr Ashley Govier, Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Ashley Govier said:
‘Current data shows that our four household waste and recycling centres (HWRC) sites are only operating at 50% capacity with opening times not meeting customer demand while operating costs remain high with significant periods time that sites have to have unplanned closures. By reducing to 2 super sites, we will greatly increase our ability to encourage the re-use of materials, recycle more of what you dispose of, control unauthorised users and provide a more accessible commercial service for small business. Staff at the super sites will be further trained to advise on where the waste can be appropriately deposited so recycling rates at HWRCs are always maximised.
‘We are satisfied the proposals will provide the most modern and user friendly facilities for residents and businesses at two convenient locations that satisfy our statutory obligations. The consultation will open on the proposals next week and we look forward to residents getting involved and having a say in the future of this important service.’
The consultation is now live and can be accessed on their website at
