Parents across the Caerphilly county borough are being encouraged to have their say on local childcare provision and help shape services in the future.
A two-week consultation period will take place between 14th February and 28th February when parents, providers, employers and the wider community can comment on services and provide feedback.
A draft document called a ‘Childcare Sufficiency Assessment’ (CSA) has been prepared by Caerphilly county borough council to identify gaps in the childcare market and map out a plan to address this shortfall in the future.
Cllr Phil Bevan, CCBC cabinet member for education said, “It is important that as many people as possible get involved and have their say about this key issue. I would encourage local people to comment on the document and highlight any issues or concerns that may have been missed in the assessment.”
The Childcare Act 2006 requires every local authority in Wales to conduct a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment. The aim of this assessment is to provide the council with the information it needs to identify gaps in the childcare market and plan the steps to secure sufficient places in future.
Key areas of the document focus on meeting the needs of families with children with disabilities, Welsh speaking households and those who are in work or who are seeking work.
Following the consultation the council will draw up an action plan to address the gaps identified in childcare.
