att99b12Young people across Wales will be able to benefit from a new toolkit developed to support youth workers in delivering a range of health related activities.

Youth workers from Caerphilly County Borough Council engage with young people in a variety of settings, helping to promote their personal, educational and social development. The toolkit provides practical ideas for running different activities on food and fitness, emotional wellbeing, sexual health, smoking, alcohol and drugs.

The production of the toolkit was led by the Aneurin Bevan Gwent Public Health Team in conjunction with health professionals from the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and youth workers from Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Newport local authorities.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education & Lifelong Learning, said:

“This comprehensive and interactive toolkit will provide youth workers with some much needed support in delivering health-related activities.

“I know our youth workers are excited at the prospect of this toolkit, which will provide them with ideas for different types of activities, and also help provide access to further information and advice.”

Dr Gill Richardson, Director of Public Health for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, said:

“Youth workers can play a key role in helping young people to improve and maintain their health and reduce risky behaviours.  This toolkit provides them with an excellent resource for delivering health education.”
