Health Minister opens New Hospice in Carmarthen

Mark Drakeford AMHealth Minister Mark Drakeford has today officially opened the new Tŷ Cymorth Hospice specialist palliative care unit at Glangwili Hospital, in Carmarthen.

The new centre will provide support for people who need palliative care in Carmarthen and the surrounding area. It will provide physical, psychological, spiritual and social support, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.

The newly-renovated specialist palliative care unit on the Glangwili Hospital site will be staffed by highly-trained palliative care staff who will provide nursing therapy, counselling, symptom and medication management as well as information for patients and their families.

The Tŷ Cymorth Hospice trustees raised the £265,000 cost of the renovation.
Opening the hospice, Professor Drakeford said:

“It is a privilege to mark the opening of this new specialist palliative care unit at Tŷ Cymorth Hospice in Carmarthen, which will benefit the local community immensely.

“The service Tŷ Cymorth Hospice provides meets the needs of local people and provides support and care at an extremely difficult time in their lives.

“I commend the work of the trustees and all those who have been involved in raising the money to enhance the service provided as well as those who run the unit on a day-to-day basis.”
