Heolddu Comprehensive School are celebrating the success of their Young Enterprise Team, ‘Hexaphone’, as they picked up the award for Best Young Enterprise Company in Wales 2014.

The team were crowned as winners at the annual awards held at the Sherman Theatre Cardiff on Tuesday 17 June.  It means the youngsters will now go on to represent Wales at the UK final on 1 July in London.

This is the latest in a string of successes for the team of six Year 12 Heolddu pupils and their product the ‘Handy-Stand’, which allows for easy hands-free viewing of phone and tablet devices. They have already won regional heats, picking up additional prizes for ‘Best Trade Stand’ and ‘Most Innovative Product’.  Alongside their success they have been given access to invaluable business advice from a number of UK companies, all of which has prepared them for a strong future in the business world.

Cllr. Rhianon Passmore Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Heolddu Comprehensive have represented Caerphilly county borough and demonstrated their entrepreneurial talents at such a high level with outstanding results.  I would like to offer my congratulations to the pupils and staff involved in this achievement and I’m sure we will have more reason to celebrate their success in the very near future.”
