Herd of cattle rescued by Conwy RNLI

The volunteer RNLI crew from Conwy were called to action late yesterday morning, following reports of a herd of 35 cattle in difficulty in the River Conwy at Tal-y-Cafn. The inshore RNLI lifeboat was launched at 11.45am following a request from Holyhead Coastguard.

In liaison with animal welfare teams, the volunteer crew assisted in herding 32 ashore. Three of the cattle had washed up stream approximately one and a half miles by the incoming tide.

Peter Carradus, RNLI Lifeboat Press Officer at Conwy says:

‘The inshore RNLI lifeboat proceeded after the remaining three and managed to lasso them back to the shore. This was certainly one of our more unusual rescues, although the volunteer crew never know quite what they will face when the pager sounds.’
