Cadw, the Welsh Assembly Government’s historic environment service, is marking the national patron saint’s day by offering free admission once again to all its managed monuments on St Davids Day, Monday 1 March.
These include one of the world’s greatest medieval castles, Caernarfon Castle, the best preserved medieval abbey in Wales, Tintern Abbey and dramatic Carreg Cennen Castle in Carmarthenshire on its cliff-top location. Access to Caerleon Roman Fortress Baths and Blaenafon Ironworks continues to be free to all throughout the year.
Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones said:
“I am delighted to continue the St Davids Day free entry initiative. Visiting one of Cadw’s sites will give a fascinating insight into a piece of our past, and what better way to celebrate St Davids Day? We hope many more people will take this opportunity to visit a site in Cadw’s care and appreciate for themselves the magnificence of Wales’ historic environment. “
