Heritage Minister launches Destination Conwy

Assembly Minister for Heritage, Alun Ffred Jones will officially launch Destination Conwy for Conwy County Borough Council today (Saturday 6 November).

Destination Conwy sets out a tourism vision for the area, referencing all the activities and services that impact on visitors and their enjoyment of a destination.

It is a key document that will be integral to the work that will take place in the coming months with partner organisations and local business to create a successful and sustainable visitor economy for Conwy County Borough.

Heritage Minister, Alun Ffred Jones, said: “I am very pleased to  launch Destination Conwy, the County’s new approach to developing and marketing the visitor economy in Conwy.  It is the first destination to reorganise the way it manages and markets itself following the Review of Destination Marketing and Management that Visit Wales, the industry and the local authorities undertook last year. In an ever increasingly competitive market, destinations need to manage, develop and market themselves better.  This means local businesses working together and not as competitors and local authorities working together given that tourism does not recognise artificial boundaries.  Partnership is key to the future development and promotion of tourism.”

Cllr Mrs Brenda Taylor, Chairman, Conwy County Borough Council said, “I’m delighted to welcome the Minister here today.  This launch marks the start of a long term project, which we will only achieve by working closely with others to make Conwy a great place to live and work, and therefore a fantastic place to visit.”

A steering group made up of individuals from the trade, tourism associations and public agencies is currently being set up to help drive forward the tourism agenda in Destination Conwy.
