Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and Merthyr’s Heritage Trust is to promote Merthyr Tydfil’s Rich Heritage at a Heritage and Regeneration Conference.
This free conference, will take place on Friday,26th November, 2010 between 9.45 am – 2.45 pm at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre and will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the region’s history. In addition to this, members of the public can learn about key heritage-led regeneration projects that have or are currently being developed.
Heritage groups and societies in Merthyr Tydfil have recently formed a working partnership with Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council with the intention of developing a Heritage Forum within the County Borough. Both partnerships recognise the rich and diverse heritage of the County Borough and the importance of regenerating the local economy, which has highlighted the need for this open access conference. This conference, which is a unique event, will seek to confirm the establishment of a Heritage Forum.
The conference is being financed through the European COLLABOR8 programme which is a transnational European project that aims to contribute to the economic prosperity, sustainability & cultural identity of North West Europe through forming & supporting new clusters within the tourism sector.
Guest speakers at the conference will be:
- Dave Adamson – Centre for Regeneration Excellence Wales (CREW)
- Cath Thomas – Head of Regeneration Torfaen County Borough Council
- Joe England – Merthyr Tydfil Heritage Trust
Throughout the day, there will be the opportunity to visit stands and exhibitions showcasing key heritage related projects currently on-going or being developed within the County Borough.
