Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to be reaching for the skies at Swansea’s seafront when the hugely-popular Wales National Airshow makes its return to the city this summer.
The hugely-popular biennial event makes its much-anticipated return to the city on the weekend of July 9 and 10.
And it’s anticipated that as many as 100,000 people could once again throng the promenade to take in some of the world’s most exciting air displays.
Graham Thomas, Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “The Airshow is one of the biggest events of the summer calendar in Wales and Swansea is very proud to be hosting it. It will be a fantastic highlight for the Swansea Bay Summer Festival, which is also welcoming JLS and Rod Stewart to the Liberty Stadium in June. This year’s Festival is definitely one to look forward to. ”
As well as the stars of the skies, the Wales National Airshow will feature a series of ground events and displays, trade stands and a funfair throughout the weekend.
Tony McGetrick, Chairman of Tourism Swansea Bay, said: “Events of this nature are important in terms of raising Swansea’s profile and getting the city’s name out there.
“It’s very encouraging to see that the airshow is returning because it will attract people from far and wide – many of whom will be coming to Swansea for the first time or will plan a trip to the area just because of the event.
“Rod Stewart and JLS will follow other big names like The Who and Elton John to have played at the Liberty Stadium and this means Swansea is starting to develop a great reputation on the musical circuit.”
