A high visibility presence and multi-agency working to tackle anti-social behaviour and underage drinking in the Bargoed area is producing pleasing results.
Over a number of weekends, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s team of Community Safety Wardens and the Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team have been targeting anti-social with a particular focus on underage drinking and egg throwing in the Bargoed area.
Bargoed officers have seen a sharp rise in the number of houses being ‘egged’ throughout the Bargoed area, causing alarm and distress for residents as well as the added frustration that residents are now cleaning up the mess being made throughout the area.
Officers have been conducting high visibility patrols of the area, as well as speaking to young people about their behaviour. In one night, officers confiscated 50 containers of alcohol.
Cllr Rob Gough, Cabinet Member for Public Protection said: “This high-visibility work being undertaken in the area is helping to make the Caerphilly county borough an even more pleasant and safe place to live”.
He continued, “We hope that by pooling our resources and knowledge with that of our partners, we are taking significant steps towards ensuring that a small minority of people will not get away with affecting the quality of life of the majority.”
Bargoed Neighbourhood Team Sergeant, Val Childs said: “We are continuing to target anti-social behaviour in Bargoed area in order to further improve the quality of life for local residents. We will continue our proactive patrols, particularly concentrating on areas that residents have highlighted are of most concern to them.”
The Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to focus on the area, to build on the excellent work undertaken in the area to date. The next PACT meeting for the Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team will be held in the Gilfach ward on Monday 6th June 2011 at Gilfach Scout and Guide Hall at 6pm.
