Local Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has officially opened a new, state-of –the-art community resource centre as part of a major £15m housing development in Wrexham.

The new facility in Hightown replaces the old community centre on Bryn-y-Cabanau Road and offers classes and rooms at affordable prices for individuals, families and local businesses.

It’s part of £15 million development project which has delivered almost 150 new homes and a medical centre across two sites on Kingsmills Road and neighbouring Rivulet Road.

The development has brought an estimated boost of £50m to the local economy as well as providing training and work opportunities for local people.

Wales and West Housing Association have delivered the project, working in partnership with Wrexham Council and the Welsh Government, which contributed over £5m to the development.

After officially opening the new community resource centre, Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths said:

“This £15 million redevelopment project will help make a big difference to the local area and provide state-of-the-art facilities everyone can enjoy.”

“The development is an excellent example of partnership working, with several different organisations all co-operating as one to benefit the wider community.”

“It is exactly the sort of collaboration needed in Wales to fulfil the housing needs of the people and I commend the Welsh Government, Wales and West Housing Association, Wrexham Council, Hightown Communities First and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board on their approach.”

“Hightown can be proud of their new centre as the modern and multi-purpose design caters for the diverse needs of not just the local residents, but the wider Wrexham community too.”
