A major £45,000 refurbishment programme has taken place at Hirwaun Library with better facilities and IT equipment for its many users.
Thanks to Welsh Assembly Government funding, the library foyer has been altered to make better use of space and it now has a first-class new reading area.
The whole library has been refurbished with new shelving, carpet, furniture and redecoration. The number of public access computers has increased from five to eight, and a purpose built IT suite has been installed to ensure more privacy and to facilitate a better teaching space within the library. The new library counter is now compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.
At a special re-opening of the library, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Libraries Service in partnership with Hirwaun Historical Society, launched a new DVD called “A Walk Around Old Hirwaun.”
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation Cllr Robert Bevan said: “The Council offers a first-class library service throughout the county borough and the decision to refurbish Hirwaun Library once more illustrates our commitment to provide a first-class service.
“I look forward to hearing more of the positive feedback following the refurbishment of the library and hope it will not only please our regular users, but encourage even more people to join and take advantage of the facilities available to them.
“Many people fail to realise the enormous amount of services on offer when you join your local library. In Rhondda Cynon Taf these services are free to everyone living or working within the county borough.”
