An Environmental Action Day was held last week in Gwelfor Community Centre, Morawelon, Holyhead where 10 tonnes of waste was removed from households in the surrounding area. Over a 100 people brought their waste to the skips and van collections were made to homes for some bulkier items.
The Tidy Towns project at the Isle of Anglesey County Council Waste Management Section in conjunction with Keep Wales Tidy organised the day which included a litter pick by children from Ysgol Llanfawr, Holyhead with members of the Waste Management Team and Gareth Owen from Keep Wales Tidy.
“Residents have called in this week to thank the team for their efforts,” says Veronica Huband, Morlo Communities First Development Manager, “We were thanked for a very professional, clean and brilliant job well done.”
Working in partnership on the Action Day with Tidy Towns and the Isle of Anglesey County Council Waste Management Section were Morlo Communities First, Gareth Owen from Keep Wales Tidy, Verdant Group, North Wales Police, St John Ambulance and Cymdeithas Tai Eyri, who provided lunch for all the volunteers.
“It is important that household waste is not dumped by residents our Environmental Action Days are assisting residents without transport to get rid of their waste responsibly. The two Anglesey Household Waste and Recycling Centres are open 10am to 5pm, 7 days a week 363 days a year,” said Jonathan Eastwood, Isle of Anglesey County Councils Chief Waste Management Officer.
