Homes to open doors over green weekend to demonstrate eco features

Environmental partners Monmouthshire Community Climate Champions are to celebrate Climate Week by organising an Eco Open Doors weekend on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th March.  All 26 properties opening to visitors have one or more eco features such as retrofitted insulation, low energy lighting, renewable energy, rainwater harvesting or grow-your-own veg and visitors will be able to witness technologies first hand and ask owners about operation, costs and savings.  Most properties are homes, but a village hall, school and a business also feature.

These eco properties are listed on an exciting new website www.monecoopendoors.org.uk allowing members of the public to preview and search the type of technology used, locations and opening times.  Details of free transport to some of the houses will be published on the website shortly.  There is still time for other property owners to participate and if interested they should get in touch via the website.

In addition, Meet the Installer events will be held in Abergavenny, Chepstow and Monmouth allowing people to ask companies specialising in renewables and insulation about available options:

Seedy Sunday, Trinity Hall, Abergavenny, 11 – 2.30pm Sunday 11th March
Chepstow Drill Hall, 10 – 4pm Saturday 17th March
St Thomas’ Church Hall, Monmouth, 10 – 4pm Saturday 17th March

Monmouthshire County Council’s cabinet member for the environment, Councillor Giles Howard said: “Hopefully, people visiting these properties will be inspired and gain the confidence to take steps towards greening their own homes and reducing their carbon footprint”.
