James Hook is looking for Wales to build on their 24 v 6 victory over Scotland as they prepare to face Italy in a little over a week’s time in the third round of the 2011 RBS 6 Nations.
Hook starred for Wales in the pivotal fly-half role at Murrayfield last weekend and finished the match with a 14-point haul but the Ospreys playmaker is now focusing on the game in Rome and coming away with Wales’ second victory of the tournament.
“It was huge for us to get the win because it would’ve been really tough to come back from another defeat,” said Hook.
“Hopefully we can go on to beat Italy and then we’re back at home against Ireland. Potentially we could pick up three wins before facing France on the final weekend.”
Wales raced into a 16-0 lead in the Scottish capital, Hook having a hand in his side’s first try and then providing 11 points with the boot but it was the side’s defence which most pleased the 25-year-old.
Wales were reduced to 13-men at one point with two players in the sin-bin and as Scotland repeatedly attacked the Welsh line, the visitors defence held firm and Hook praised the defensive effort.
“Our defence when we were down to 13 men won us the game. It was tough but the boys worked hard and our last-ditch defence was outstanding. We had Scotland mentally after surviving that.”
