A shopping centre was transformed into a giant catwalk as Wrexham became the fashion capital of the UK for a day.
Crowds of shoppers clapped and danced along to the music as the professional models strutted their stuff at Eagles Meadow, showing off the latest fashion trends.
Wales’ top style expert and popular S4C television presenter Huw Rees, known to his legion of fans as Huw Fash, said the Fashion on the Move event was an indication of the town’s increasing popularity as a fashion hot-spot.
Huw said: “To create an exciting centre for shopping and the natural buzz that this brings, people need to know that Wrexham is a place to visit so organising events such as the roaming fashion show underlines the town’s commitment to fashion.”
The fashion show certainly had Wrexham Police Community Support Officers (PCSO) Keith Jones and Michelle Knox tapping their feet to the music as they chatted to members of the public watching one of the three shows held throughout the day.
Keith said: “I think it is absolutely brilliant that Eagles Meadow puts on entertainment such as the fashion show. It’s great seeing crowds of people enjoying the sun, music and fashions on show.
“It gives the town a real sense of community and hat has to be a good thing.”
Michelle agreed, adding: “Really enjoyed it and it has given Keith and myself an opportunity to join in and chat to shoppers and visitors at Eagles Meadow.
Wrexham’s Hayley Matthews, 22, her son Harry, 19 months, and mum Christina Matthews, 58, joined in with a few dance moves of their own as they watched the fashion parade.
Hayley said: “I used to do Morris dancing so I think I’ll leave the catwalk stuff to the models.”
Christina added: “The music was great and the way the models danced together as they showed off the outfits was brilliant.”
Amanda Shelmerdine,of Gresford, and her daughter Libby, three, and son Lloyd, eight months, stopped to watch the fashion show.
Amanda said: “I really enjoyed it and Libby was certainly tapping her feet in her push chair! It’s nice to see something different and I really enjoyed watching the performance of the models, they were excellent.”
And the shows model performers certainly came out with a clean bill of health from two Wrexham-based doctors.
Lucie Waugh, of Catwalk Model Management and Events, explained the concept of Fashion on the Move.
She said: “It’s fun and lively and a great way to show off the range of fashions available in stores within Eagles Meadow.
“We are showing off clothes from M&S Debenhams, Bank, Top Shop and Top Man, River Island, Ragazzi, Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Next and Wallis while jewellery has been supplied by F Hinds.
“Hair stylist from Gozo helped make sure the models looked absolutely perfect as they paraded around Eagles Meadow and took to the temporary stage we set up.”
She added: “It has been a big hit with customers and everyone has enjoyed the show and the music. We had seven models, including two child models, as well as a presenter.”
Eagles Meadow Manager Kevin Critchley was delighted the event has been such a resounding success.
He said: “Eagles Meadow is undoubtedly the place to come for dedicated followers of fashion.”
