Are you interested in the weather? Do you have some time to help out the Met Office?
The Met Office is looking volunteers to take readings at its weather station in Prestatyn.
The Met Office gathers and collates the National Archive for Climate. One of the sources of data for this archive is the voluntary climate observing network. This is a network of manually read stations throughout the U.K. taking daily climate readings and reporting them to the Meteorological Office.
One of these stations is in Prestatyn, and they are currently looking for a small band of community volunteer observers willing to give some time to take these readings on behalf of the Met Office and Denbighshire County Council. You would need to be able to take readings one or two days a week, on a rota basis, with other observers; one observer would also act as a collator of the data and input it into the archive.
You would preferably have an interest in weather, and be able to spare approximately 30 minutes in Prestatyn to take readings at around 0900 G.M.T. a couple of days a week. If you can use the internet, that would be great, but if you are unable to do this don’t be put off.
If you are interested in applying to become an unpaid volunteer, please send a brief letter or e-mail to Ian Olson, Coastal Facilities Officer, Denbighshire County Coucil, 16-18 Edward Henry Street, Rhyl, LL18 1TE, [email protected] and we will forward a Person Specification for the posts and details on how to apply.
Closing date for applications is Thursday 21 January, short listing and interviews will take place in February 2010.
