His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is beginning a new term as Patron of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. The role of the Orchestra’s Patron will continue for another five years.
His Royal Highness first took up the role in 1993 when the Orchestra was then known as the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra. Always an excellent supporter of the Orchestra’s work, His Royal Highness has, since becoming Patron, visited eight times for official concerts and occasions as well as making more informal visits to see the Orchestra rehearsing. He most recently attended the opening of the Orchestra’s new home at BBC Hoddinott Hall at Cardiff Bay last year.
The patronage brings with it opportunities and prestige and the Orchestra are delighted that the role will continue for another term.
BBC Cymru Wales Director Menna Richards said: “The BBC National Orchestra of Wales is one of our most important cultural assets, connecting people with music across Wales and all over the world. We are extremely pleased that HRH The Prince of Wales has chosen to continue as the Orchestra’s Patron, underlining his commitment to this very special association.”
Phillip Watts, BBC National Orchestra of Wales’ Development Manager adds “As well as the status that this gives the Orchestra, this unique support helps to demonstrate the importance of the creative industries in Wales.
His Royal Highness is also generous in offering links with opinion formers, business leaders and other organisations that he is also involved with and this often leads to new partnerships for the Orchestra.”
