On Saturday (25 June), hundreds of local people will join the Gorsedd of the Bards to march through the town of Barry, as part of the day-long event to celebrate the Proclamation of the 2012 National Eisteddfod, showing the people of Barry, the Vale and the whole of Wales the support and enthusiasm which exists in the Vale of Glamorgan – as the whole community looks forward to the Eisteddfod next year.
The centre of town will be transformed with two large stages set up for local children and people to show their talents and welcome the Eisteddfod in a fun-filled and unusual way. The Proclamation Ceremony will take place as part of the day-long family event. There are also almost twenty stands, with all kinds of organisations and societies taking part, creating a special day for people of all ages.
Elfed Roberts, National Eisteddfod Chief Executive, said:
“We are delighted with the numbers who have responded to the invitations sent out to local schools, clubs and societies to take part in the Proclamation festival. We very much hope that 25 June will be a fun day out for all the family and will give the people of the Vale of Glamorgan a taste of what’s to come when the Eisteddfod visits Llandow during August next year.”
The ceremony will be held in Memorial Hall, Barry if the weather is unfavourable and they will contact the media if this is the case. Details will also be posted on www.eisteddfod.org.uk, www.facebook.com/eisteddfod and www.twitter.com/eisteddfod if the weather is unsuitable for an outside event.
On Sunday 26 June, the Proclamation Cymanfa Ganu (congregational singing) will be held at St Austin’s Church, Penarth, at 20.00. The conductor is Eleri Roberts and the organist, John Wyn Owen. This will be the Eisteddfod Choir’s first performance and will be recorded for S4C’s Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol programme.
