Two Hungarians who lived a few miles from each other back home met for the first time while working in the same Chinese restaurant.
Nagy Istva’n, 26, and Ovodi Gyula, 22, were stunned when they met at The Real China at Eagles Meadow shopping centre, Wrexham.
Nagy, from the tiny village of Geszdely just outside the city of Miskolc, has worked at The Real China as a waiter since December 2013. He previously worked as an insurance agent for his family’s business, Bauvex, before moving to Wrexham.
He said: “It is nice to have friends from Hungary here. It’s like having a little bit of home here in Wrexham. It means I miss home a little bit less.
“We are very close and we stick together. We understand each other, and we speak the same language. We tell each other stories and we talk about our families, our girlfriends, everything.
“Eagles Meadow is nice and so is the The Real China. We always work hard to do our best here to cook good food and to give good service. We are always joking with each other so there is a great atmosphere here.”
Ovodi from Miskolc, used to work in a Blackberry mobile phone factory in Hungary before moving to Wrexham, and he has worked at The Real China as a delivery man for six months.
In his spare time he is a Muay Thai instructor and a capoeira dancer.
He said: “I very was surprised to meet someone from home when I started working in The Real China. It was good because it made it easier to make friends here.
“Living so close in Hungary we have a lot of things to talk about.”
Real China manager James Qiao believes having the Hungarians on board adds something special to his team.
“They are very good workers because they work hard.
“Because they are all from Hungary they can talk to each other in the same language, and that is good for them. It means they understand each other better. They are always laughing and joking together.”
“Sometimes they make some traditional Hungarian food like goulash and things like that which is nice.
