Voluntary organisations in Cardiff can now get help with improvements to community centres, meeting places and other community buildings. Grants of up to £5,000 are available under Cardiff Council’s Community Buildings Grants programme.
Projects which are eligible for funding include:
- structural repairs and alterations;
- safety and security improvements;
- energy efficiency measures; and
- access improvements.
Applicants need to be able to show how their project will encourage better use of their building by the local community.
Last year Shiloh Pentecostal Church in Riverside was successful in securing a Community Building Grant for a new kitchen, new toilet for the disabled and other improvements.
The church is a well used local facility which offers coffee mornings, library facilities and various activities for local children.
Councillor Judith Woodman, Executive Member for Housing, Communities and Social Justice said: “Shiloh Church is just one of many organisations across the city where help from the
Community Building Grants programme has made a real difference in the facilities it can offer the community. I know that other community groups, especially at the present time, are struggling to keep on top with repairs and improvements, so why not get in touch and see if we can help.”
Joy Findlay, Siloh Pentecostal Church Treasurer said: “We are extremely grateful for the grant as without it we would not have been able to carry out the much needed work on this strategically placed community building. This means a lot to us as a local charity and of course to the local community who will benefit from the improved services we will now be able to provide.”
The deadline for applications is 25th June, and interested Groups should contact the Neighbourhood Regeneration team at County Hall as soon as possible to discuss project ideas.
